Gaim updated… Jabber rules all

The Gaim folks got Yah** working and have released 0.70. From the announcement it looks like this is gonna be a moving target so god only knows how long it will work… Which brings me back around to Jabber.

I messed around with the jabberd server over the weekend and was able to get it fully functional (directory, registration) in less than an hour including tweaks! It also support SSL connections natively so you have encrypted chat. I haven’t messed with any of the transports, and I doubt I will at this point. I’m trying to move everyone I know over to Jabber at this point, but that’s an uphill battle. Just glad Gaim consolidates everything for me…

F*ck Yahoo

Rant Alert!

F*ck Yahoo’s messenger service! I am soo damn tired of dealing with all of these propietary chat services and their complete waste of time and resources trying to keep people off em that don’t use their software. It’s just chat people, not some lucrative commercial secret. They’ve already lost their edge with Jabber in the mix, so they should be concentrating on improving interoperabilty (whew!) instead of locking folks out.

If anyone wants to get in touch with me via im, I’m lin_matt@jabber.org on Jabber.
